This door type is made up of hinged panels, with four or five inches in width. It opens by each hinged panel folding over each other. If you closed this door, it provides a solid wall of panels, giving you a secure look. Some materials to consider for this type are aluminum, glass and wood. Some examples include the First Choice Series 140 and Danny Plastics Accordion Doors.

Bifold door:

This door is a space-saving solution and will allow you complete access to your closet. If your room has a small wardrobe or linen closet, then you would be better off to install a bifold closet door. If you have a large closet, this type is also perfect because it is pleasing to look, adding a modern architectural effect and decorative touch to your home. You can put in a good paint to make your closet with bifold door blend in with the rest of your home decor and wall. An example of this style are the Kestrel Closet Doors 6222 Plantation Louvered Doors.

French door:

If you want a classy and elegant look to your home, a French door, like the Masonite Pine French Double Door is perfect. The unique design of this door type allows a controlled amount of light to pass through without compromising your privacy. You can opt to use materials such as glass, mirror, wood or plexiglass. If you decide to use this door type, invest on some good closet organizers to reduce the clutter inside your closet and not ruin the effect of your French door.

The design of this door and the materials it use allow light to pass through the area enclosed by the door.

Louvered door:

This door is distinguished from other door types because of its slats which allow your closet to breathe, thus keeping your clothes or shoes fresh all the time. You can also install this door in other areas in your house to allow air to circulate. Material choices include wood, glass, mirror or aluminum. An real life example of this door are the Craftmaster Pine Louver Bifold Doors.

Sliding door:

Another space-saver solution, this door opens by one panel sliding pass the other. The one disadvantage of this type of door is it allows you to access only half of the opening of your closet. It also comes in many different materials. A mirrored sliding door is ideal for rooms with limited space because the front of your closet can also double as your dressing area if you install a floor to ceiling mirror. An example is Spaceslide Sliding Wardrobe Doors.

Deciding on Modern Patio Doors

Looking at modern patio doors can be overwhelming if you don't have some sort of idea of what you are looking for. This is why it is important to think about your investment before making the purchase. For instance decide whether you want sliding glass, out swing, French, a pet door in them, bifold or accordion doors. Decide on a style such as contemporary or modern patio doors and then decide on whether you want the same finish on the interior as you get on the exterior. All of this can make a difference when you begin shopping.

exterior doors

Some of these choices may be simple to make but others will require some deep consideration. One decision that may require deep consideration is whether you want a pet door. Most of us have to physically take our dogs outside because they can't jump up and open the doors for themselves. We live very busy lives and this can sometimes be a problem. With sliding glass doors that have pet doors in them, you no longer have to worry about that. The doors can be locked for security when they are not in use and they are generally sealed to keep the weather out.

EXTERIOR DOORS

Another major consideration is whether to use sliding glass, French, bifold, outswing or accordion doors. Each one has their own special features but which ones will give you the better return on your money when it comes time to resell your home? French doors add a style all of their own to your home. They allow diffused light to enter while keeping prying eyes from seeing in. They can be either outswing or in swing doors depending on your preferences. Accordion doors allow you to open your home up to your family and guests. They generally fold up neatly against one side leaving your patio free of obstacles.

Consider whether you will use your modern patio doors as a replacement for an existing door or whether this will be a brand new doorway. Sometimes installing new doors means more expense. Using new doors as a replacement for existing doors can be relatively inexpensive. Most of them come with all of the hardware that is needed for installation so there is nothing else to buy, no added expense. Sometimes additional window treatments such as blinds or curtains may be necessary to conceal the interior of your home from passersby. This may require extra hardware such as curtain rods but they too are relatively inexpensive.

Whether you are looking for patio doors that are contemporary, modern or new age, you can always find what you need from the various retailers online. They can match the exterior colors of your home with your new doors as well as give you ideas for window treatments. You should check with local retailers to see what is readily available in your area and what is popular. You may find the bargain you are looking for in your own backyard.

Modern Bedroom Furniture Ideas - Platform Beds

I grew up with traditional looking furniture in my parent's home. It blended in well with their own home décor of wall hangings, art and other home accents. When it was time to move out onto my own with my wife and start my own family, I was hoping for furniture that could help reflect my own taste and style as well as my wife's. We liked furniture with clean lines and contemporary design. So we began our search for modern bedroom furniture.

masonite panel

Modern furniture presents you with some interesting choices in the way of bedroom décor. The most modern concept in beds is referred to as a platform bed. These beds incorporate the idea that your bed doesn't require an old bulky box spring but can instead be more open by having a foundation built into the bed that consists of slats or panels. These will provide ample support for your mattress and will help to open up the look of your bed.

MASONITE

Bedroom furniture made with modern styling can incorporate many new design elements to better make use of their unique designs. Modern platform beds may feature lift up storage which allows you to lift up the supporting frame and mattress on your bed to reveal storage beneath. Because platform beds don't use box springs it allows for more space beneath the bed. This space helps to accommodate storage areas as well as under bed storage drawers which essentially give you a chest of drawers beneath your bed.

Many modern platform beds present more space beneath the bed since they don't use box springs. This will help to open up the look of your bedroom with a less cluttered look.  Still, other platform bed models will present lower profile designs which open up wall space. These beds will feature side rails or headboards which stay lower to the ground because the bed's design and the absence of box springs. You'll also find that modern platform beds still incorporate traditional materials such as wood or metal into their designs. However newer model features may integrate glass as well as fabric or upholstery into bed designs.

Other modern design elements in platform beds include integrated tables that float or align with the headboard of your bed. This provides a more unique design that creates a contemporary look for your bedroom by introducing new design elements into your décor that aren't static. Other case goods like dressers, chests and mirrors also can be made with a modern flair which will bring together your bedroom with matching pieces.

Platform bed structures feature your typical side rails, headboard and footboard. The primary difference with beds made for mattress/box springs is that those beds use a wood or metal support system that consists of 2-4 cross pieces with minimal support across. Mattress/box spring beds are designed with the intent that a box spring be placed over the top of the frame which is typically close to the ground. Platform bed frames will sit higher up off the ground and will feature slat support systems with around 10 or more slats and center support rails or legs. Some platform beds may incorporate masonite or solid paneling as well.

Modern bedrooms start with the bed. Platform beds are a great way of achieving a cleaner, contemporary look by having a more open design beneath the bed. No box springs are needed with platform beds and these beds feature a built in foundation of slats or panels.  These designs also give way to integrating under bed storage, glass headboard designs or even fabric or upholstery around the bed or in the headboard. Add matching case goods with these beds and your bedroom will feature contemporary styling that will blend in with your modern décor. Consider a platform bed when designing your new bedroom.

Interior Sliding Glass Doors For the Modern Home Or Office

Sliding glass doors are a beautiful addition to any home. They are great for both the inside and the outside of the house. They can be used for closets, bedrooms, back doors, etc.

exterior doors

These doors are very safe, even if you have children in the house. They are easy to open and close and need little maintenance. They are made of thick glass that is very difficult to break; it is usually 5mm to 7mm thick. They usually are constructed using laminated safety glass for added protection.

EXTERIOR DOORS

Sliding glass doors are easy to open and close and feature a very quiet operation. High quality sliding glass doors are very unlikely to become loose on their tracks as they make use of a special locking system.

These doors may be locked in both their open and closed states. They may be locked with a key in order to provide security, or locked for convenience by the simple pull of a lever.

Sliding glass doors are constructed using the following parts: a head, sill, insulated glass, hardware, and a jamb. The head is the main horizontal piece that serves as the top frame of the sliding glass door. The sill forms the bottom of the sliding glass door frame.

The insulated glass may be composed of two or more hermetically sealed panes of glass. If you would like to increase insulation in your home, these panes of glass may be layered with argon gas which can increase the doors' ability to retain heat.

This is great for those winter months when heating bills can get so high. The hardware part of sliding glass doors is what is used to open and close the doors. Finally, the jamb is the entire patio door frame.

Sliding glass doors have been improved significantly since they were first invented. Today's models feature energy efficiency, durability, safety, and beauty. Sliding doors may be constructed of either aluminum or wood, each having their own pros and cons.

Aluminum doors naturally are more durable and provide for better security, but wood doors are much more fashionable. Wood doors will also be much more vulnerable to moisture, so make sure you apply a durable finish.

As a third option, you may choose fiberglass doors that are constructed so that they resemble wood but don't warp or crack as real wood is prone to do.

The wood, aluminum, or fiberglass only form the frame of the doors however, as you know the main part of any sliding glass door is glass. Seek glass that has a high quality glaze. Most sliding glass doors feature this so it is not difficult to find.

Most sliding glass doors will feature dual glazing and/or argon gas filling. There are various kinds of glass that is used in these doors, so look carefully at what is available to you so that you can make the best decision.

Remember, you don't have to stick to just one simple design. If you keep this in mind when purchasing your sliding glass doors you are certain to make the best choice.

Modern Louvered Folding Closet Doors

Dimensions for louvered folding closet doors will vary based on the age of the home. For older homes, doorways can range in size from 18 inches for a coat closet to 72 inch dimensions for a bedroom closet. Modern homes have an average closet size of 54 inches for a doorway, much like many windows. In these modern homes, there is a growing trend of updating to louvered folding closet doors as a way of saving space and still utilizing the space as a way of adding to the decor of the room.

For the homeowner that is trying to update from old one piece doors to a more contemporary look, the size of the doorway is one of the factors that will decide what type of doors you can use. If your doorway is less than 36 inches in width, you will not be able to use sliding or bypass doors. They generally require at least 52 inches for installation due to the width of the panels and the track they will sit in. Louvered folding doors come in many styles including retractable, multifold, bifold and accordion. The bifold type can be used in doorways as small as 36 inches, while accordion or multifold doors can be used on any sized doorway up to 74 inches. Retractable doors come in many widths and dimensions; therefore they can be used on any sized doorway.

MASONITE EXTERIOR DOORS

When choosing contemporary doors for your room, it is important to decide what type of materials you want your doors made from. The heaviest are made of solid wood, and are generally the most expensive. Retailers offer discounts on some types of wood depending on the time of year you shop, so it may be best to check online retailers for deals on shipping during holiday sales. Prices are less for polymer doors, as these are lighter and easier to manipulate when manufacturing. These are just as durable as wood and come with many options including mirrored panels and can be custom made for any sized doorway.

Polymer doors regardless of options can be found at most home improvement chains and come with instructions for adding other hardware or options for customization. Custom jobs for polymer doors are the least expensive with many companies, because of the short period of time it takes to manipulate the material. Interior wood doors that are unfinished can be added to by simply applying mirrored tiles or panels, linen panels or painting with your favorite color. Applying a layer of matching wallpaper to the entire panel can create the illusion of having no door in a wallpapered room.

Interior doors are more easily customized than the exterior kind, because there are so many mediums that can be used to alter the appearance, whereas exterior doors generally can only be painted or stained to alter the appearance. There are very few things that cannot be done to interior doors, the only limit is your imagination.
