I have found that there is this "in between" time where the garage door really does not yet need to be replaced but it could certainly use a makeover. If your door has chipped paint, scratches, dents, broken glass, missing panels, or just simply looks old, it is time to overhaul the garage door and bring it back to life. I do not see a reason to spend 0-0 to replace a garage door that simply needs some paint and a little elbow grease.
If you have any dents or scratches in the door, you will want to fill those in with some sort of compound before you paint the door. I prefer to replace broken glass windows with solid panels but you can have the broken glass replaced with new glass if that is something that you would prefer. Just as you would with anything else you paint, you want to make sure that you are putting on a coat of primer and then the topcoat. This will ensure that the color comes through perfectly and does not fade too quickly.
EXTERIOR DOORS
When it comes to tackling projects like these, I find that it is often a good time to brighten up the entire exterior of the house. Maybe the house trim could use a new color to match the new color on the door. With just a few dollars and a spare weekend your house, and your garage door, will come back to life and look better than ever!
